    Group MO Meet 3rd to 7th July,2008; Alleppey.

    The 5th Meet of the Group Medical Officers’ started on 3rd July , 2008 at 3:00 PM at the conference hall at the venue Punnamada at Alleppey. The Chairman of the Committee formulated by the Director HR, welcomed Mr.Vaidhyanathan.S, Senior VP HR to the 5th Group Medical Officers’ Meet. In his welcome address, Dr.T.Parthasarathy stressed the need for more communication amidst the doctors of the group and insisted that at least once in three months, those who are nearby should get in touch with each other physically.

    The Meet started with a demonstration of a very new glucometer from Piramal Nicholas, Mumbai. The two devices to evaluate glycated hemoglobin (Rs 17,000/- per piece) and state of the art Glucometer, two generations ahead of Accucheck of Nicholas help the doctors world wide in evaluating diabetes control in patients .

    Mr.Vaidhyanathan, Sr.VP HR, shared with the group that his childhood dream was to become a medical person, especially a doctor and that such dreams had come true in our cases and that we are more dedicated to the society we live in. He also opined that a doctor’s interpersonal skills were vital in treating the patient. It is the reassurance that complements treatment with patient education.
    While in the Technical session, the first was by Dr.Rema Prathap’s presentation which included a movie by the American Heart Association (AHA) where, defibrillation, external cardiac massage, mouth to mouth resuscitation, ventilation after intubation and other related procedures were all shown in the film.

    Dr.Jyoti, who presented a paper on perinatal mortality rate reduction in Valparai Populace, said that a relationship exists with the educational and literacy rates in the subjects.

    Dr.Thilak, talked about the management of an active case of AIDS in children and Anti Retroviral therapy

    Dr.T.Parthasarathy talked about the need for the group to know more about managing chest pains in clinical practice and told that on the last day of the Meet, two eminent doctors would address the group dotors about Chest pain and its management and Coronary Artery By pass graft. He also told that on the lasyt day, the first session would be handled by Dr.Sule of SalVoy pharmaceuticals which were in the manufacture of Influenza Vaccination. And that this person would be talking about the necessity to vaccinate people againt Influenza.

    Dr.John Sukumar distributed the photos of the camps in the form of a CD

    Dr.P.Subramanian, said that on every 31st of December, their company does health checkup for the retirees and a pack of books on health is given to them, which was appreciated by the guest. During his presentation of “Lifestyle Diseases” he shared about Diabetes, Heart attacks, Stress, Heart burn and their sequel in everyday life. Rise in the percentage of Obesity among employees and wearing helmets with straps on were also discussed.

    Dr.Bhaskaran in his Dasavatharam and Ashtavatharam, depicted his inclusion in their company's fitness forum and said that sports and entertainment was being lead by him in his company and that a good diversion from routine helps stabilize any other health concerns

    Dr.T.V.Venkatramanan told about his Baby Welfare Center and its being adjudged as one of the best practices of the group along with St.John Ambulance Brigade. He also spoke about how an ergonomic audit is carried out.

    On the last day, Mr.Sule presented a movie about the loss of man-hours due to influenza attack and how it is common in India contrary to our beliefs and that the vaccine changes the profile on a yearly basis because the somatic antigens of the former year used in that vaccine will not help combating the new morphed virus of the current year. He also told the indication and contra indications for the vaccine.

    Dr.Srinivasan, cardiologist interacted well with the group and talked about localizing the lesion in the event of a heart attack with the help of ECG and talked about PTCA

    Dr.Srivatsava, showed a film on how the heart lung machine performs, doing a by-pass without anesthesia (video) and the best wa to handle the MI was to only do a CABG (pronounced cabbage)

    After the chairman distributed the Mementos and certificates, the three day session ended
